“Building a literate community and transforming lives by strengthening reading and language skills.”

The Literacy Center of West Michigan’s mission is to build a literate community and transform lives by strengthening reading and language skills. Since its founding in 1986, the Literacy Center’s proven programs have helped thousands of adults in our region learn to read and improve their English language skills.

The Literacy Center accomplishes our mission with a multi-faceted approach to literacy needs.   Our family-centered services are instrumental in fostering interactions between a child’s parents and a child’s school. Our adult tutoring services provide one-to-one individualized tutoring to both reading and ESL (English as Second Language) adults in our community. Our Customized Workplace English program works with employers, offering customized workplace English classes for employees at participating businesses and organizations throughout the area.  Throughout all of our programs, the Literacy Center’s focus is always on the needs of the learner: their goals, their learning style, and their availability.
