Bringing about a just and vibrant West Michigan through the power of literacy.
Join UsGive TodayWe work alongside immigrants, refugees, and native speakers of English to provide literacy instruction tailored to meet learner needs and priorities. All of our programming is offered at no cost to the learner.

We are proud to be the largest community-based organization in Michigan devoted solely to adult literacy education, and one of the largest in the country. Learn more about how we meet learners’ needs here.

Makarim, an immigrant from Sudan, was determined to further her education and support her growing family. Donors to the Literacy Center helped Makarim persevere through multiple financial setbacks to obtain her license in Medical Administration this June. Her next goal is to get a master's degree, a process she started in Sudan and hopes to continue here. Your support makes Makarim’s story possible.
