Meet English Instructor Alyssa Nora

Monday Meets 4 copy

About me: Hello, my name is Alyssa and I'm originally from Grand Rapids, but have worked and lived abroad for the past 8 years! I am currently an English Instructor at the Literacy Center both for the Family Literacy and Workplace English programs. A little bit about myself is, I recently graduated with my Master's Degree in Education from the Universidad de Alcala in Madrid, Spain. I also have a Bachelor's Degree from Anderson University in Psychology. I have over 7 years of experience teaching ESL both to children and adults in the United States, South Korea and Spain. I am passionate about making English interesting, engaging and exciting for my learners!

Hobbies: I love traveling to different parts of the world and learning different languages, (especially Spanish!) and about how unique each culture is. I also love doing various activities in my spare time such as drawing, painting, running, yoga and being in nature.

My favorite parts of the job/what I look forward to: What I like about working at the Literacy Center is getting to know each of my learners at a deeper level. There is a real sense of community that is cultivated in each class that allows learners to open up and feel comfortable to express themselves in English. It's amazing to watch each of my students open up and express themselves freely in English! What I look forward to is watching my learners' progress and confidence grow from the start to the end of the course. It is a rewarding feeling to see each learner succeed!
