About: Autumn joined the Literacy Center as a coordinator for the Adult Tutoring Program in October 2020. After completing a bachelor’s in English Language & Literature at Grand Valley State University, she began her career as an English teacher in Quito, Ecuador. She later earned a master’s in TESOL at Illinois State University and taught in Indonesia with the English Language Fellowship Program. She worked with a literacy council in Madison, Wisconsin for five years before moving back to her home state of Michigan.

Hobbies: In her free time, Autumn loves traveling, camping, hiking, and generally exploring the great outdoors. If she’s stuck inside, she can usually be found with a book or a knitting project. She’s an amateur birder, a hobby that grew last year during the 3 months she spent volunteering at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.

Favorite part of the job: Over these past months, Autumn has felt lucky to get to know some of the learners the Literacy Center serves and to hear stories of how they use their growing literacy and language skills. She also enjoys supporting tutors and is always happy to talk about resources and activity ideas!
