Remembering Ed

Andy Ed and Hamid 1 Edited

We remember Ed for his quiet determination and deep commitment to literacy. Even in the face of serious illness, he continued to show up—ready to grow, connect, and learn.

Earlier this year, we lost a member of our Literacy Center community, Ed. A native English speaker, Ed had been connected with the Literacy Center since 2003, working with various coaches over the years. In the summer of 2023, he was matched with Andy, and together they focused on computer literacy, reading, and comprehension for Ed’s daily life.

Through their work together, Andy shared that Ed made great improvements in his understanding and confidence. Their trusted relationship also gave Ed the space to share his journey with terminal illness. Despite health challenges and frequent appointments, Ed continued to meet with Andy at the Literacy Center whenever possible—remaining dedicated to his learning until the very end.

Ed will be remembered for his perseverance, his progress, and his deep commitment to learning. As his coordinator Hamid shared, “Ed was a human of understanding life.”

This spring, we honored both Ed and Andy at Spellebration for their dedication and inspiring partnership. You can watch more about their story here:
