Meet Eileen, one of our coaches being celebrated at Spellebration on Wednesday April 15th.

After retiring from Grand Rapids Public Schools, Eileen began volunteering as a literacy coach and quickly found a new classroom through the Literacy Center. Her first learner had never learned to read or write in any language. Today, that learner has a job, a home, and a son who has graduated from college. Eileen now works with two learners who read aloud with her each week and practice English together at the library. They call her “Teacher,” and their lessons are filled with laughter as they learn together.
